Another
planet conveniently hidden from view, Adumar has been cut off from the rest
of the 'civilised' galaxy for over 10,000 years. Only when a New Republic
survey team stumbled upon this lost world did they discover that, not only
does this planet contain resources much needed for the construction of proton
torpedoes, but that they really, really love flyboys.
Adumar's obsession with combat fighters turned their culture into one
based upon duels. Whole minutes would go by before the gauntlet was thrown
down and it was off to satisfy someone's bruised honour in daring deeds
and death-dealing games of Old Republic Monopoly and planet-size risk.
Considering Adumar has quite a few countries dividing its surface, you
can imagine they'd be pretty good at this kind of strategy game, having
had years to perfect their squabbling with internal politics. It was these
nations that managed to somehow form an alliance when it came time to
join the New Republic; one can only assume they'd found someone else to
blame for any national strife, some unfortunate figurehead to lay it all
on... *cough* Hobbie *cough*....
Surprisingly, despite Adumar's love of all things flight-based, they lost
the ability to create ships capable of hyperspace travel (that's what
happens
when you get banished, you always lose something in the move). It was
only after the New Republic's arrival that someone found these missing
plans inside an old shoe box, mistook them for bills, and threw them in
the nearest trash-compactor. Unfortunately, Adumar was a planet where
the reckless youth died young (Old Republic Monopoly again). When New
Republic pilots arrived in an effort to bring Adumar into the modern galaxy
(not just for commodities, that would be wrong...) they soon found that
this could not continue if the Adumari wanted to join the gang. The
honour duels eventually faded, thanks to Red Flight pilots and Wedge being
such a ladies' man.
Go figure.
