Hapes isn't just one planet - or rather, it is, but it also happens to be the homeworld of the Hapes Consortium, a cluster of 63 stars and 63 planets (go figure). The Consortium is very old and rather wealthy and had almost no contact with the rest of the galaxy for three thousand years.

The Hapes cluster was originally settled by the Lorell Raiders, and before that the L.A Raiders, who were chased out in the final quarter by a 300 yard throw. The Lorell Raiders were a group of pirates who liked to seize beautiful women as mates. This led to their downfall as the women, tired of being left at home to mind the shop, called in the Jedi Knights to eliminate the Pirates and then took control of the Cluster for all woman-kind. This change in leadership led to the beginning of a matriachal society, with the title of Queen Mother denoting their leader. It is thought the first annual treasure hunt and combined beauty pageant were introduced at this time, with contestents battling through perils to find the hidden credits, all the while posing in a variety of swimwear.

The home of the Royal family on Hapes is the Fountain Palace, although they have a secondary fallback position at the Reef Fortress on an isolated island accessible only by boat... or parachute, or spaceship, or <snip>. The Hapes Consortium has failed to eradicate its old piratical roots entirely, as young male Hapans, shunned by trainee beauticians, resort to piracy in a fit of rebellion. However, they have the Hapan naval space force to contend with; although, they tend not to leave water, so that's a bit rubbish. Lucky, then, that their recent Queen Mother is a Jedi, and she has a Jedi-Phone link to call in the cavalry.

Queen Mother Ta'a Chume once offered her son, Prince Isolder, to Leia Organa in marriage. She declined, he smelled like squid.
