Commodore JJ
How did you come into the position of SC/DSC?
I got my start in counseling, and was also a member of ST and SW
security. After that, I went to Internal Affairs and ended up leading
that for a while. From there, I was brought in as DSC by Babel when he
was the SC, then I moved up to SC after him.
What was something you were hoping to accomplish in accepting the
position, and did you accomplish it?
I wanted to accomplish what I always hoped to accomplish in every
position I had with OTF, to learn new things and do my part to help the
OTF community thrive and grow. The EC accomplished a LOT during the time
I was in Sector Command, v2 and the formation of the Guilds, just to name
two of many.
What would you most like to see happen in the future of OTF?
What I would love to see happen is a return to the “good old days” and a
return of the sense of community and respect it once had. But they say
you can’t go back, so it will be interesting to see what happens to OTF
in the future.
Has being "brass" changed your opinions regarding the site from your
younger OTF years? For better or for worse?
Of course it changed my opinions, as in any organization, the more your
responsibilities grow and the more you learn, you (hopefully) become more
invested in what’s going on. Although there have certainly been tough
times, I’d say overall my experiences have been positive.
If you had one super power, what would it be and how would you use it in OTF?
I lost my mind-reading abilities at the age of seven, that would
definitely have come in handy!
Why do you do what you do? ie, what drives you in your OTF career?
It’s never been a “career” or about position or promotions – I already
have a career. OTF is a community of volunteers that I loved getting
involved with, finding new ways to use my talents and abilities. That’s
what it’s supposed to be about. So I guess what’s driven me was wanting
to make OTF the best it could be, so that other people could come have
that global experience.
What's one thing the general OTF populace doesn't know about you and would
never suspect in a million years?
I dunno… maybe that there are a lot of stereotypes out there about what
Texans are like, and I don’t fit any of them. That’s a little generic,
but I’m not really mysterious or secretive.
Do or did you enjoy your work as SC/DSC? What's the best/worst things about the position?
I loved being in Sector Command! Not only because of all the great things
we were doing on the EC at the time, but also because it’s such a
“people” job. Some of the best things were getting to learn more about
what people were doing in all the departments, interacting with SM’s,
creating the Welcoming Committee – that was one of my favorite things,
for sure.
The worst thing about SC is that it’s such a people job – we’re all human
and we all get passionate, angry, make mistakes, etc.
Cut each other some slack, be respectful of each other, and OTF is what
you make it so don’t wait for someone else to provide entertainment for
you, make your own fun. Okay that’s three things, but they are all
important! And here’s one more for the road, remember that “it’s just a
chatroom” and don’t take things so seriously.
Which OTF member inspired you to greatness and why?
Wow, that is such a hard question, because I have been inspired by so
many people for different reasons! Zilette inspired me with her care and
concern for other people and her “never say die” attitude; Jon and Henri
not only because they are such freaking technological geniuses, but also
because they never make you feel dumb because you don’t know how to do
something; Kymmy inspires me, but more for personal reasons not
OTF-related ones. And the person who has inspired and supported me the
most is CT of course, I would not be the person I am today if it wasn’t
for him.
What is your dream rank and avatar?
Well ranks are nice but not the end all, be all. When I started chatting
at OTF, I never imagined I would get to do all the things I did, so I’m happy.
I can smooch CT pretty much anytime I want to. *L* However, anyone who
answered “yes” to this question is in a lot of trouble!
If you could have any position on the site regardless of your abilities or
skills, which one would it be?
None really, I’ve been fortunate to be able to do pretty much anything
I’ve been interested in, some of them twice!
Do YOU know what a goober is?
Yes. But do you know what a kumquat is?
What do you like most about OTF?
Learning everything I have about other people and cultures in a way that
wouldn’t be possible without a site like this, and the wonderful friends
I have made here.
What do you like most about Polson?
She’s not afraid to stand up for what she believes in, and makes life
fun. Under all that silly-ness is a talented, creative, and caring young
woman who I admire a lot!
